Headed out to Samish again on Sunday morning to see if the kokanee fishing had improved with the recent warmer weather. We were on the water with lines down near the launch at 8:45am, fishing 3 lines with various dodger/ lure combos. About 15 minutes into our fishing both outside rods go off. Managed to get one to the net and the other to the boat but it got off before we could net it.
On our way trolling back towards the launch we had a couple more good hits but nothing stuck. We made our turn near the launch area and headed back to where we had the double 20 minutes earlier. We made the same turn as before and the middle rod goes off hard!! It was not acting like a small kokanee and my son said it felt a lot heavier. When the fish finally came into view it wasn't a koke but a large cutthroat! (18-1/2") I knew there were cutts in Samish but had never caught one.
We fished until about 1pm and ended up with 5 kokanee 1 cutthroat and a few more lost on the way to the boat. The most action came on a Dick Nite 50/50 dodger with a chartreuse wedding ring spinner tipped with tuna corn. The fish were caught between 12'and 16' depths at 1.2 - 1.4 mph.
Had a great day fishing with my kids (who really aren't kids anymore). Good luck out there!
