Dad and I hit Eloika to target bass, perch, and maybe crappies, and really anything that would swallow a hook. Got on the water about 730, and took to trolling east shore. I brought a dinker to the boat and told it to keep growing as I tossed it back. I managed to land a smally worth keeping still on the east shore, close to the north end. We circled the lake and were constantly hooking weeds, but didn't get any action. Finally went back to the east shore and dad put on a particular spoon with worm trailer, and brought in 3 or 4 smallies in about 10 minutes or less (no exaggeration). We packed it in about noon with 10 smallies in the cooler. We had fun since we've never really far better anything besides trout before.

That lake is great to sack a bunch of eaters but “smallies” ? I have been fishing there for 25 plus years and there are no smallies in that lake

I concur. I have never seen/heard of a smallie caught in there after fishing it since I was a child. But I have heard of some being caught in fan and that's connected by the creek that flows into Eloika.

Maybe I am mistaken. In comparing the fish to current WA regs booklet, it does bear more of a resemblance to large mouth. When I asked my neighbor, who has fished a lot more than me, he said they were small mouth.

My wife and I were tossing 3" plastics 2 years ago catching crappie when she nailed a 2# smallmouth. It really surprised me as I didn't know there were any in Eloika, I just figured it was one that someone"planted" on their own. It went back into the water so it doesn't surprise me that folks are catching them now.

If they’re smallies, they will take over and run the largemouth Out.
