I fished Black Lake Yesterday for the very first time. I started at dawn and trolled one complete circle of the lake using some different flasher and bait set-ups. To my surprise the first rainbow was caught when I accidently drifted a little off course and ended up in only 8 feet of water. Normally I never troll in this shallow of water (usually like to fish 15-25 feet at other lakes). But today, the hot spot for me was at 8 to 14 feet of water. I caught all rainbows on a 4" pink/nickel dodger and a pink/cream smiley blade (with a little nightcrawler piece added). The only weight I used was a small 1/8 ounce slider. I had "hits" almost ever time through his location. The fish were not huge, but did put up some great battles.

Thanks for the report! Sounds like fun. How long was your leader after the dodger?

Do you happen to know what the water temperature was?

I looked at the fish finder screen throughout the day, but I forgot to write down the temperature. I believe that it was 43.5 to 44.0 in the morning, then 45-46 later in the day. I might go out again on Sunday.
