Headed back to Beaver after a not so good day before. One thing for sure, it was colder than the day before.
Launch about 9:45 am and was surprised to see 7-9 cars in the lot. Two guys were coming in when I launched and reported 2 fish off of powerbait.
I rowed down to the far end of the lake putting my lines in about 1/2 way down. Nothing for the next hour and half and I started to feel the skunk coming on as my spots were dead again.
Noticed two guys trolling getting a fish as I was started to head back so I tried that area and immediately got a small bump. I quickly turned around to make another pass going the same direction. (most of my fish have been caught trolling counter clockwise as I troll this way based on reading about freshly planted hatchery fish habits} Was going past the two guys that I saw catch a fish and bam, a quick strong hit but no hook up but he was still messing with my lure. The guy facing me going by noticed the strike and asked if that was a strike and I said, yes and he is still after it and then Fish On! The skunk was off! Classic cookie cutter Beaver Lake Bow.....about 15”, 7” girth and this one was full of fight! I turn back around to make another pass and wam, another one on the other rod going a much higher rate of speed.
This went on for about 90 minutes as I either caught a fish or had strikes every pass headed back towards the launch but nothing headed the opposite way. All 4 boats in the area picked up fish also during this time till I was the last man standing because I release my fish while the others got their two and left.
One boat caught a fish with powerbait and one casting a lure. The other two were trollers and one caught his two with a Tiger pattern Kastmaster and the other troller looked like maybe a fly. Their action was not as fast as my Flatfish set up, which I lost one after my last fish got into a bouy and broke off just as I rowed up to it. Again, best color was Black with Silver Specs on the inside pole.
I hope to give it a go again on Christmas and later in the week when the weather warms up before I head back south to my favorite lake....Munn
Merry Christmas
