Was planning on taking my customer and his 4 year old out today but he had a change of plans at the last minute so wanted to go on Sunday instead; so I figured I would get out anyway to make sure everything worked on the boat and do a little pre-fishing!

As it turned out I had some work issues come up early so got those handled and arrived at home around 9 am to get the boat uncovered and ready to roll! Was a little worried as I was heading up north along 405 and couldn't even see Lake WA due to a low hanging fog bank but was relieved when I motored up I-90 and saw it was thinning out and could actually see Lake Sammamish from the highway!

Got the boat in the water and figured I would start the day with the lead core line out back around 115 feet with a 5" pink glow sling blade and "tight line" Yakima bait kokanee rig tipped with pink gulp maggots. Spotted some birds right away along the western shoreline and some midges so started my troll there at 1.5 mph with the water temp at 46 degrees. My hands were frozen so fired up my new heater buddy to thaw them out and wait for the bite! Soon it was toasty in the Tin cup but not so hot on the bite so kicked up my speed to 1.7 to 1.9 and BAM fish on! Turned out to be a nice little feisty 13" er so the winter skunk was off the boat!

But as it turned out that was the last action of the day for me! I was able to play around with some new items I got at the Cabela's black Friday sale and the Sportco member appreciation night in Fife so that was fun! Plus was amazed as how much the water temp changed as I trolled around the lake where it was 38 degrees when I was out in the middle of the lake and anywhere from 42 to 46 when closer to shore. Still a beautiful day to be out on the water and hopefully will have more success tomorrow with some added bodies in the boat!

See you on the water!

I too usually would troll Cutts. at 1.7-2.2 mph, etc. Barry. But last Monday we did very well with the speed 2.5-3.2 mph. Felt way too fast, but the fish were OK with it. Strange.

It was nice meeting you today Salmonberry. Sorry to hear your customer was unable to make it.

My husband and I spend 5 hours on the water and did pretty well. Caught 6, lost 2. We were trolling at 1.3 - 1.6 mph. Tried faster as everyone suggested but no takers at the faster speeds. All fish bellies were crammed packed full of midges. I think fish are so full they just aren't as motivated to bite as they were earlier in the week when the hatch was just beginning.

I posted a report so it should be up soon. You will find my report under the name "herefishy". You know, "Here fishy, fishy, fishy... =D
