Al and I launched at Mardon's this morning and headed to the humps south of the dunes. We started with bottom bouncers and slow death rigs and initially got a couple of bullheads. We switched to #9 Flickershads to cover more water and finally found an occasional walleye and a couple nice largemouth bass. Mid mourning we switched back to bb and slow death rigs and landed 3-4 walleyes an hour. Dark colors worked best for us and 20-30 FOW is where we found fish. Most of the eyes were 15-16 inches with several 18+. We ended up with 20 eyes, 3 bass, 6 catfish and 3 crappie(all C&R). Water temp 60* and speed 0.9-1.3 MPH. We had almost identical numbers to our trip last Friday but the eyes were larger last week with the largest 25". Despite some periods of good white caps it was another great day on the water.

Thanks for the report. I would say you had a great day also. 20 eyes sounds phenomenal considering the other reports on NWFR recently. I have yet to ever have a great day like you on Potholes. Even hired a guide last year in the Fall just to see if he had some techniques or ideas that I missed and we still didn't get more than a few. I've done just as well by myself. Went to Banks a couple of weeks ago and ended up with a dozen with 3 people fishing on the boat. Didn't see but one other fish caught by anyone else, so I thought we did well. Maybe Potholes just isn't my lake. Glad to see someone do well there. Thank you for a nice amount of detail also.

WOW sounds like a very good day!! thanks for the report. I hope to get there this week or next. I will need to find out more where the humps are at and when fishing the flickershads do you just put your swivel on them and run them how far behind the boat?? anyway thanks

I put a swivel on my line then run a 2 foot fluorocarbon leader to a snap. I then put my crankbait or bottom bouncer on the snap. Easy and quick to change from one to the other and no problems with line twist.

The humps are easy to find if you have a GPS map. Any shallow area surrounded by deeper water.

alternate method is to run them tied directly to your line and set them back 120-150 feet. The humps are on the far side of the lake due north from Mar Don. You'll see the bottom contour varying 10-25 feet deep and that means you're there. Troll like 2.2-2.5 mph. The flicker shads will drive to the bottom and dig/bounce along the sand. Can be very productive!

My trips to the Potholes (many...) have been hit and miss, like any lake for the most part. I used to take the bowfishing bow with me for the times I got real bored.

Anyone have any recent info on the water levels out there. Trying to figure out how to rig my boat for hunting/fishing this weekend. Thanks
