This lake is tough! I've come here in the early am and dusk about 5-6 times in the last month and only got 1 tiny tiny trout.

I've tried floats with worms/powerbait, bottom with worms/powerbait, spinners, jigs, and cranks. All from the dock though. Only 1 bite and 1 landed during that entire time.

This lake is conveniently close to me so I use it to practice, but damn it would be nice to get some kind of action. Hopefully it'll get better as things cool down and we get some rain.

Trout wise I have heard it is very tough in the summer months. It will be better in the winter if you can handle tougher conditions, unless that closer of the North creek hurts the Cutthroat population.

I floated the lake 3 weeks ago....1 tiny bass on a popper while fly fishing. The other time I floated the lake was in April and I caught some Trout. Excellent fighters these Trout were.

I would cast to the deepest water with a Marshmellow Worm combo with about a 4' leader to start with and vary your depths if needed. Not a bunch of worm or it will sink the bait. Check your line and Bait often. Or you can wait till the water temp drops enough to activate the Trout

Thanks for the tips! I'll try the marshmallows and the deep and ends.

TMBob, I took your advice and went back the next morning. I didn't have marshmallows, so used a Berkeley mouse tail (white head, pink body) and fished deep (brought my 10 ft ultralight ;)).

Pretty quiet again, but finally go a bite while reeling in. Good fight and when it surfaced, it was a gorgeous 12-14 inch trout! Good hook set and brought him in for the landing... Then my line broke while picking him up... Ugh.

Still, awesome fish and best action on Boren since I've been there. Thanks again.

Good to hear.....make sure that you are using Flourocarbon line as your leader, not mono. Cost more, but worth it.

I like to use Mike's Chartreuse Marsmellows and combine that with Power Bait Eggs same color (one egg), then the worm piece threaded thru the end so the rest hangs down, but just Mike's and a Worm works too! Good job!
