I decided to head over to Pend Oreille for a few hours of fishing on Thursday. I put in at the county launch in Bayview and headed across towards the cliffs and slides on the opposite side of the lake. We headed up the lake towards the old cement plant and had lines in the water by 8am. We started trolling with one downrigger at 40 feet and one at 30ft. I thought the fish might be in that depth range but we didn't get any bites or see anything on the fish finder until 9:30 as we got within a half mile of the cement plant. I then started marking large schools of kokanee from 55ft to 110 ft. So I put the downriggers down to 65ft and it was game on. We caught 17 kokanee in the next 1.5 hours and one nice 18 inch rainbow. The kokanee were all 10 to 12 inches. Pink hoochies tipped with maggots and anise sent behind a silver Mack's dodger worked the best but I caught fish on several other colors as well. My buddy had to be home by noon so we quite at 11am and headed back. The lake was calm and it was a lovely day on the water.
