This is not a report using our lures this is a report of just getting back out on the salt and fishin for nice summer run kings and black mouth! That's exactly what we we did! Since we heard all the great reports coming out of Mid Channel bank we decided to give it a try for the first time. Launched out of Fort Casey and made about a three mile run to Mid Channel bank fishing on the bar in about 90-120 of water. Instantly started marking fish right off the bottom. Our set ups were on 2 rods using a Gibbs Red Racer Flashers with moon gelly tape, 42" leader of 30lb fluorocarbon, down to either a Gold Star 3.5" Cookies N' Cream spoon or a 3.5" Red Racer Spoon. Using Super Dipping Sauce Herring and Anise. Dropped the gear down, fishing about 5-10 feet off the bottom. Not 5 mins in the rod starts bouncing but didn't managed the hookup. 15 mins past by and decided to to run one rod shallow about 80 feet in 120 feet of water in hopes there will be a king feeding shallower higher in the water column. As soon as we did that, that fish hit that lure so hard it popped off the clip and immediately started pealing line going straight down to the bottom! Keep in mind the rod was still in the rod holder. Picked up the rod started fighting the fish for about 5 mins and eventually pulled the hook. So we ran back up the bar from Port Townsend decided to do that drift once again. About 10 mins goes by another fish on! With our gear 5 feet off the bottom, started peeling line right away. That's when my grabbed the rod and started fighting the fish! 5 mins goes by and finally netted our first 12lb king! Nice big Silver bullet! Long Story short we fished for about 2 hours and had 5 hookups total and managed to put one in the box! I will say that the hooks that come on the spoons, I believe they were big river hooks, I think has lost a lot of fish. I believe if we had both spoons switched over to Siwash hooks, we would of had a much better catch rate. I have seen videos and reports that people transfer there big river hooks to Siwash hooks. So that exactly what we did and managed to bring in our fish. I would highly recommend switching to 2/0 or 3/0 Gamakatsu Siwash hooks and running a barrel swivel off the back of the spoon before attaching your hook. That way it keeps the hooks pulled tight in the fish without the fish using leverage on the spoon to throw those barbless hooks. It was a great day on the water and it was nice to get away from the fresh water for a little bit. Hope to be back out to slam more of these fat, bright, predatory, Silver bullets!

Wow, I cut the siwash hooks off & put on the Big River hooks...used to lose a million fish with the Siwash. Others can debate that. Great report...lots of fish at MCB...gonna close soon so get out there!

I love the big river hooks. Used them on sockeye in baker lake this year and they buried themselves so deep I had trouble finding enough shank to grab them with my pliers. Maybe it's different with kings not having such a soft mouth.
