First-time poster here. Hope I can figure out how to post a photo.
Wanted you Lake Sammamish experts to confirm for me that this fish is indeed a cutthroat. Reddish patch under the chin folds was there, but with the amount of spots below the lateral line I wasn't sure if it might not be a baby king.

Moved to Sammamish from Chicago 7 years ago and this is my first summer actually fishing this local treasure. Look for me out there in my brand new (!!!) Bayliner Element F18 with the black hull & center console. No down riggers so I'm gonna try lead core trolling since so many of you seem to do fine with it. Plus, trolling (for walleye) is how I fished Rainy Lake in International Falls for 10 years on an annual club trip.

Can't wait to learn the lake better, and be able to chase those smallmouths. All will be returned to the water. Not a big trout eater either. Fish in the photo was released. I will, however, keep a stringer of perch for the table if I ever find a willing school. I know some of you guys catch them by accident!

We had a great time catching smallies today and limits of cutties. I think I saw you out there on the 4th! That's an awesome ride!

Thanks! Got him right in front of the northernmost DANGER buoy at the tree-snag bay. Had no idea that area existed. Can't wait to get back in there with the Merc trimmed up out of the water and use the Minn Kota to fish those snags.

I've been lurking for a couple weeks on this site, so I'm a big fan of your work. What's your ride? I'll honk at you next time.

For future reference a chinook, juvenile or adult ,will have black/grey color in their mouth and on their gums, trout are all white. The lake temps are rising and the trout will soon start heading for deeper water. The perch fishing should be pretty good in the lake right now and get better as the summer progresses. Just fish along the outside of the weedline and you'll find them along with some smallies and the occasional catfish.

I would love for you to keep a stringer of perch and thin them out a bit. There is a spot so full of them that you would be hard pressed not to catch them. Although worms work, trout magnet with the brown worm color works best. 1/32 ounce gold head. Use as light a line as you can -2 lb works fine. Most of the perch are now at about 15 to 20 ft, but you will find them everywhere.

Leadcore will work fine. Today I trolled with it at 4 colors at 2.6 mph. Big slams each time on the spoons. Got more hits than on my DR, but maybe it was the lure choice on that one.
