I had to see what the hype was all about and decided to try my hand at Lake Roosevelt Sturgeon. The fish treated Mike and I very well today. Except for the fact that I am now quite sore and worn out. We launched at Kettle Falls and anchored twice upstream. Both locations provided action for us. Landed 6 today and kept 2 missing several other opportunities. I will be back and I think I will enjoy relaxing and watching my crew do all the heavy lifting.

Thanks for the report Dave. We were up there Friday evening. I agree, catching and releasing sturgeon for the fun of it is not high on my list anymore. 2 a year is plenty.

Beautiful area to fish. We caught walleye fri and sat. I forgot to mention about all the debris. Boat captains need to be on high alert for wood. It can be hard to spot in choppy conditions.

I caught a sturgeon when I was about 3-4 years old.It was all of 6 inches. It was months before I forgave grampa for throwing it back in the river. Old and in the way as I am I still remember it.

Hi Dave - Congrats on the Sturgeon fishing, that is a beauty Mike got! Also thanks for the walleye spinner I clobbered the walleye with it on Sunday while you were chasing the prehistoric "monstas".

Thanks for the report Dave... I was wondering if anyone was having success in the new fishery. Just two questions... what were you using for bait and were you targeting the deeper holes? That is if you don't mind sharing some info! :)

Smelt, herring, and squid seem to be the top three baits reporting success. If you do the math there a literally sturgeon all over the upper reaches of Roosevelt. I focused on 45-65 FOW.

Going to have to add Sturgeon to list of species you guide for. :-D

Friend of mine was in same area as you and thankful for all the attention to sturgeon, said there was a lot less pressure on walleye and they did very well. IIRC he said they kept 41 or 42 'eys between 3 anglers for the day.

Walleye and sturgeon both got added to the list this year. But nothing is as beautiful as a fat 23" kokanee. Except maybe a 24' koke, or a 25".
