Went back tonight, checked my crawfish pots, (no luck) and moved the 2 pots to an area that a lake front home owner suggested. Deeper this time, 25 and 18 feet. Did a little more trolling around, and caught another 15 incher with bright red meat. We also had the previous 2 days catch for dinner tonight. All this years bigger trout I've kept from local lakes have been unusually delicious! Nice salmon like consistency and fat content. Not too lake flavored. (low troutyness?)
I tried running downriggers again and flat lined too, rotated through a lot more gear to try and locate kokes, no Kokanee found for the 3rd evening in a row. The fish seemed to be hiding until it got dark. I was having a much harder time locating shallow fish due to the thick band of whatever that is on the sonar picture. I marked some waypoints over some 30-50 foot deep suspended fish in the middle of the lake, and came back to a few of the marked spots on the navigation screen well after dark with a few different glow in the dark baited jigs/ spoons, but just scared the marks away every time.
The lake had increasing debris scattered over the surface the later it got. Also noticed the crystal clear water clarity ive been seeing over the last few days is starting to be dotted by patches of cloudy, low visibility, dirty looking water. The surface temp was 60 degrees in many places, cooling to 58 after dark.
The neatest part of the night was slowly cruising around with a bright flash light between like 9 and 10 pm. Fish everywhere on the surface over deep water in front of the launch! Lots of lone 5 inch trout or Kokanee were wandering around in the top 2 feet of water. Then i saw a big bullhead catfish doing the same, then a few small perch. The larger rainbows or cutts would scatter as soon as they were in the light, but the bass, catfish, perch and fry would all just let me creep right up to them, staring into my light. Some of the bigger bass would cruise right up to the boat! Several pairs of catfish were out strolling around in the top water too!
I threw misc lures, jigs and baits at the bigger 2-3 lb cats and 2-5 lb bass, but they paid no attention to me unless I smacked em with my gear. There were constant splashes in the darkness all around me, that were probably the skittish trout. Wdfw planned to release the 2017 Kokanee fry in may, and the little 5 inchers that were the most plentiful might be those? Not sure if they planted them yet though. Maybe thats what all the bigger predator fish were so focused on? All of this strangely cool fish meandering was in one of the poor visibility debris filled sections of water, between the middle of the lake and the steep drops right in front of the park/ launch in 30- 55 fow.
I really need to learn how to edit those previous tracks and waypoints that clutter up the map on the Humminbird. Maybe label the important ones, delete the majority of the marks and create some trolling routes on a pc? Anybody know how to do this on humminbird units like these ?
Can any of the mods help me change the date on my last report to the 18th? (accidently selected 17th) Thanks!
