Fished several popular north end spots to keep away from fog and crowds in the South end. Drifted spreader bars with squid, salmon bellies. no takers. Near a number of other boats during day , did not see any success. No Halibut reported to WDFW checker about a dozen boats in before us. Just a note tribal fishers conducted a fishery earlier in week. This probably didn't help the success. rate.

Sounds typical! And us sportfishers better get used to getting the shorter end of the stick again I suppose.

We have no representation in this state, just one big tribal give-away. They get the fish,we get the shaft.

Reminds me of about 20 years ago when they let the tribes drag net green point near port angeles,to this day all you catch there is dogfish and an occasional skate.

I contacted the WDFW and asked about tribes long line fishing in the Straits. WDFW said the tribes were "mopping-up" from their March fishery, to catch remaining halibut to meet their quota. Reports are they caught an excessive amount recently, without any validation or oversight by WDFW. I for one am getting tired of this one-sided approach.

In other words the price per pound went up and they went back out and caught as many as they wanted before the sport opener. Doesn't hurt to let WDFW hear our concerns but not sure if it does any good either.

I'm sure the sport season will be shortened to make up for the loss of fish on the coast and in the straits. Damn sportsmen are wiping them out. Thankfully our licenses are free.....wait.
