Launched at first light from Porcupine and headed down river to McCoy's where we jigged near the buoy and picked up a bunch of dinks. We jigged the edge of the flat in 50 FOW with a green jig head and a punkin colored grub tipped with half a night crawler. Most of the fish were in the 10-12 inch range. Once that slowed down we moved up river to the flat below the red barn and trolled silver smile blades and picked up about 15 more dinks. Our last stop was buoy 1 where we once again jigged in 45-60 FOW and picked up a bunch more dink walleyes but we were able to catch enough eaters to bring a few home. We also picked up some burbot that my fishing buddy Glenn wanted to keep. Total catch for the day was 83 eyes, kept 23, and 13 burbot, kept 8.

Speaking of burbot, the tournament this year is being held on January 14 I believe. YJ Guide service is running it out of Ft. Spokane and it will include walleyes and rainbows this time. $20 entry fee isn't too bad of a price to have some fun catching a bunch of fish. It was a blast last year, especially for me as I won first place and largest burbot. It amy be cold but the chili feed afterwards will help warm everybody up.

Nice report! I might have given that a 5 though :) A question - one of us is confused and its probably me but, I thought Porcupine was in the Spokane arm? I thought that "Roosevelt south end to Spokane confluence" went from Coulee dam to the Spokane arm but not into the Spokane arm? Am I totally lost? :)

Thanks for the report, that's a mess of fish I would be happy to take home. I don't know the arm much below Porcupine I almost always go up but I think I need to broaden my zone a bit based on how well you did, Thanks for mentioning the tournament that sounds like fun.

Larry,
This site doesn't list the Spokane Arm separately from the rest of Lake Roosevelt so I just pick the south end for my reports. I would have rated it a 5 if the size we were catching was just a little bit bigger; in the last 2+ weeks we have boated over 250 walleyes but only kept about 40 due to size.

nice report mark!
any burb tips you care to share?
I was going to do the burb tourny, idk now... are each group of fish to be separated? either way I'll be in the arm busting burbs soon enough. met the JY guide bro's at porq. dock, after last years tourney... and they looked at me like I was crazy making the buoy 5 run in my lil 16' dingy... Yeah, it was cold. but imo a very cool and tasty fish. got my limit the next trip...

Brent,
We catch most of our Burbot on jigs just like walleyes, that being said, anything chartreuse is going to be your best bet when it comes to the Burbot. All the Burbot we cleaned on Friday were stuffed with 3 inch perch and crawdads; one had six perch in its gut plus crawdads, they are definitely fattening up for the spawn. What kind of dingy do you have? I will have to keep an eye out for you and if I see you I will come over and say hi. I will either be in my Tracker Targa 18 or my buddies grey Lund.

16' crestliner, grey with red stripe, tiller with 40hp, the old Beer-a-cuda... pry wont be up there til late dec or early jan? depends on the reports..
I did best last, with a weird combo of 3/4 glow jig, with a 3" plastic craw, and a chunk of herring, run a trailer/stinger hook into one of the craws claws for short bitters... throw a bit of mikes herring gel into body cavity. ones I got were full of minnows.
made this vid of the last trip;

gonna hike into 4th of july for the opener on friday, theres some rainbow pigs in there, last yr it was almost un-fishable, so the carry-over numbers should be crazy. pry gonna get some good vids of the quick-set's busting fish... kinda like a mouse trap/dr for shore fishing.

see ya up there... tight lines.
