I had the pleasure of fishing with two great crews today. Kokanee limits came rather quickly, but rainbows continue to be harder to come by.
I finally found some coho killers at the White Elephant in the valley. I have been eager to give these a shot. So this morning I tied on the best looking one with 10lb flourcarbon and tossed it out with 5 other rods, and ...Bang...Fish on.... until... he wasn't. The fish was gone and so was my Coho Killer. Grrr. I hate donating my gear to these fishes. I made sure to test the knot on the second killer I tossed out, and rechecked the drags on my koke rods. All systems were a go. The knots held and the Killer accounted for several more killer kokes. Side note on this lure. Be sure to down size the hook slightly.
These fish seem to be putting up more of a fight as the water continues to warm. After breaking off a few too many fish over the last week I am bumping my leaders up to 12-15 pound fl. carbon. I run soft rods and light drags, but these fish are hammering my baits and are occasionally busting leaders.
Thank you NWFR members for keeping me busy this spring. I enjoy meeting you and fishing beside you. For those of you who are considering booking my services I urge you to call me with questions. I have great rates and I would love to take you out for a day on the water.
