We stayed at Red Lion Inn at on the River Jantzen Beach. This is a great location Our guide picked us up at the Hotel Dock which was 150ft from our room. We started to fish at 7am fishing next to I-5 Bridge using pyramid flashers, 8oz drop weight and cut plug herring. First fish came at 7:20am with a nice 12 lb hen. Second fish was at 8:50 am about the same but it was a wild so that fish was released. Then last fish taken was the big one at about 9:30am a beautiful 25 lb Spring Chinook.

Note all three fish were caught under the I-5 bridge or railroad bridge we would head up to the condos on Washington side which is about 1/2 mile up river from the I-5 bridge . After 10am it died off! If you are going to go please go on a weekday. The river was packed with weekend warriors and the river was rough because of it which is why fishing was a little slow.

Hey Tyee-4me, my wife & I were out there Saturday as well on a guided trip, 5 on the boat... NO fish! not even a bump very disappointing day. How deep were you fishing. Our guide had us right off the bottom.

25-34ft bouncing on the bottom. so Had a 8oz weight on a T set up with weight on 8-10 inches. Which means our gear was 10 inches from the bottom. Rod tip was just barely bouncing on the soft sandy bottom and trolling cross current. ...................So where were you fishing and how buoy or trolling cross the current? We had 6 hits and 3 fish 1 which was a wild which was released with 4 people. If you want to fish the river I would bet mid week would be best. 1/2 the boats on the river which freaks that fish out.

Tried the same area a few days later with not much luck. Moved way down river and got our limit. No 25lb King but the largest was about 19lb. Great conditions. I'd say they are all over in the lower river now.
