Finally got a chance to take Captain Dave out on my boat for some Kokanee fishing. Launched at Spring Canyon and had the lines in the water about 9:00. Dave caught the first fish out in the middle just upstream from the launch; wow that didn't take long. Could we have a hot fishing day? I switched up to the new VK flasher I ordered from Finland and caught the second koke. Then nothing, just seemed to die around 10:30. We marked fish and chased marks but that didn't seem to help. The deeper fish were just not biting.

Moved down towards the dam and picked up another off the lead core line outfit. It seemed to be the hot rod for the day fishing three colors deep. That particular set up has caught more fish than any on my boat; it is rigged with three colors only and 80' of leader putting the presentation 170' behind the boat. It fishes somewhere between 12 and 15' deep depending on speed and terminal tackle.

We decided to quit at 4:30 and right at the last we had a double. I got mine and Dave's came off part way in; that's kokaee fishing! Finished the day with four wild kokanee from 18 to 19 inches and really fat plus three rainbows.

What a beautiful day it was. Forty three degrees when we launched and high 50's as the sun warmed things up. Almost no wind and 39 degree water. Didn't even have to fire up the heater, just hard to believe it is still only February.

Captain Dave is one of the sponsors here on NWFR, give him a call if you would like to book a trip to catch some of these beautiful kokes.

Tight lines - Alan

PS Here is a video Fish Dawg put together from our trip to Roosevelt. Enjoy

Nice! Sounds like your most productive setup is not much different than mine. I run 3 colors with 50ft of leader. Don't have any fancy flashers from Finland but maybe I should. We had the big one I caught on Friday yesterday for dinner and it was excellent.
Stay after them.

Nice report Alan, sure brings back fond memories of fishing out of Spring Canyon. We fished the Plum Point area for Kokanee, and the Swawilla Basin shoreline, and bays for Trout, Bass, and Walleye. Think we will try the VK2 9.5" flasher, and the VK Bait Holder on Spring Salmon, it might be a good combination. Looks like that 6.5" Watermelon worked for you. Thanks for the tip.

Nice day for you guys and nice report, however... Note to camera operator: Too much sky, not enough water! And please, get rid of the music. I want to hear guys fishing not random music selections, which, by the way, are probably used without permission, am I right?

New camera and it was just mounted to the top of the boat, no operator. We had fish to catch with only two of us on the boat!

Hey Alan, Fish Dawg did a great job on the video. What I liked best was when Dawg is looking back at the jumping fish and then looks to see what pole it is on. Thanks for the report. Looking forward to seeing you at Chelan! Andy

Andy - We had just lost a fish and we thought it was that one jumping, then Dawg realizes it's on his pole! Then I'm watching him work on the fish and finally see the downrigger bouncing; what a free for all!! And to think we managed to get two out of the three in the boat....yahoo high fives all around!
Can't wait to see everybody at Chelan, what a blast it is.

Alan, I enjoyed the video, it was like being there with you. Dawg did a great job, glad we aren't the only ones that get a little frantic with multiple hookups, looking forward to the next one.

Thanks for the report, Al. Looks like another bomber day on Roosevelt.

AFK - Thanks for the props! Was fun to go back and sift through our adventure in video and edit it down to the good stuff!!

EddieBishop - Thanks for the feedback. New camera so just learning how/where to position it to get good footage. Sound is from my library of music that was all purchased legally and the video is not selling anything or used for other commercial purposes and I make no profit from it so I don't see any harm in covering a lot of background noise from the trolling motor and a lot of babbling by two dudes fishing with something a little more pleasant. Next time I'll balance the soundtrack so viewers get a little of the color commentary too.

Fyi, youtube will quickly manage copyright music, usually by putting a link in for the IDed music. This is not a copyright issue for private videos. The catalog owners are satisfied with how youtube handles copyright music and the millions of videos on YouTube.

Not sure why you are running lead core with downriggers???

Hi Froggie - The lead core is not on the downriggers. We run two lead core and two downriggers. The fish are at 15' more or less so stacking is not a very good option. Besides I personally catch more fish on lead core during fall through spring at Roosevelt. Many other lakes hold the fish deep and downriggers stacked is a good option. We will be doing that at Chelan coming up the end of the month.
