Glenn, Ron and I all participated in the Burbot tournament on Saturday. We piled in Glenn's Lund and headed up the ARM to a couple of our favorite Burbot holes. We may have gotten 1 bite at our first but that was it. We moved to our 2nd favorite spot where we had much better luck. Glenn started catching walleyes , he really hated letting them go, instead of Burbot and Ron quickly put 2 Burbot in the boat. I was still just hoping to get a bite. Our first fish wasn't caught till 0930 and I didn't catch any till about 1000, but then it was on and I had the hot hand. I boated 8, threw back the 3 smallest, Ron boated 7 threw back the 2 smallest and Glenn kept catching walleyes. Glenn did eventually catch 4 small Burbot. We headed back down the ARM to the weigh-in where thanks to Glenn's boat driving I was able to take both first place with 19.2 lbs. and largest fish, about 4 1/4 lbs. Ron just missed 3rd with about 14.3 lbs. We didn't weigh Glenn's 4 Burbot because they were small but between the 3 of us we probably had close to 40 lbs. of Burbot. I want to thank YJ Guide Service for hosting the tournament, those guys really know their stuff and a good time was had by all. The temperature was great for early January with no wind and water temp was 39 degrees. All of our Burbot were caught on jigs with green pumpkin the best color. This time of year chartreuse is the go to color; Glenn and I have been fishing walleyes on the Arm for 10 years together and a jighead or plastic with chartreuse on it is something I stay away from because it is so effective for Burbot.

Thanks for the great report. Didn't know about the tournament and very little about burbot but it sounds like it was fun and I really like eating them. Going to have to learn.
