Fished Swawilla Basin this morning and did really well for some Kokanee. Had my limit of 2 wild Kokanee before 8:15. Started fishing the Basin area about 7:30 so fast fishing for Kokes. Picked up my cousin around 8:30 at the launch and headed back to the ledge trying to find the school again. Didn't hammer them when we came back but my cousin picked up 2 more Kokanee with adipose fins. Couldn't keep the 12" - 14" rainbows off the rigs. We were deep too, didn't matter.

Finished the day with the 4 wild Kokanee and 13 planter trout. Biggest Koke was 18", second was 17" and then two 15". Nice healthy fish, very deep and thick. All fish were caught in 275' to 285' right along the river channel. Downriggers were at 40' and 50'. Tried going deeper as the day went on but they stayed there. Pink Kekeda flies with a smile blade and sling blade dodger on all rods. The Kokanee really stay buttoned with the treble hooks on Kekeda flies. Had a couple of them thrashing on the surface and they seem to stick themselves more rather than shake off. We were off the water by 1:00, started to get hot by then. Great day fishing for some Kokanee. They're filleted and ready for the smoker tomorrow.

Nice Dave. Those are some real toads. Glad to hear they really stay stuck on the kekeda trebble trailer. The bowes have always stayed well connected when we winter fish.

Nice lookin' fish! What leader length and speed do you run this time of year may I ask?

Thanks Alan and atroutfisherman. They were fun to watch jumping and dancing behind the boat. The meat was absolutely gorgeous, dark orange and firm.

afk- Leader length was 14". As for speed, I know this may sound like dumb luck, and maybe it is, but I was running as slow as an 18 hp outboard will push a 14' hewescraft aluminum. I don't have a speedometer on my little boat and I usually fish with my brother who has one on his boat. I did install an app on my phone and it read 2 mph most of the day. It doesn't have speed to the tenths of a mile per hour so no way of telling exactly how fast. That was a long way of telling you I have no idea how fast I was going. :)

Nice catch Dave! Combination of high temps and a holiday weekend will keep us home and off the water. Week after looks good unless our DIL goes into labor, which she just might. Yesterday's Dr visit revealed she's dilated 1cm, baby is head down, mucous plug released, and she's 70% effaced. First grandchild (granddaughter) will be here soon. :-D

Hey Dave, more power to ya when it comes to doing whatever it takes to fish. I do not have a speedometer on my boat either. I'm also lucky enough to fish with others that do. After I get my boys thru college I'll be in a much better position to look at a better boat and electronics. Keep up the reporting and tying of your Quality flies!

Hey David! Thanks for the details; sounds like another great day on the water even if it was hot. We've discovered fishing the channel edges has been productive if you can somehow get the tackle down below the 12" planters.

Congratulations Phil, that's exciting news. I'm sure you're thrilled with the thought of your granddaughter's arrival. It did get a little hot. We were thankful for cloud cover in the morning, kept the sun off our backs for a good part of the morning. Hope you get out soon, those Kokes were delicious smoked.

afk- sometimes just getting out and getting after them is the big part of the equation. I always think, "well I'm not going to catch anything sitting around the house". Good luck getting your boys through college. Part of me wanted to see if I could get them in my little 14' open Hewes with little lake troller downriggers on 6lb balls. It was fun and rewarding!

SnoKing- It was a good day. And to tell you the truth, the planters weren't that much of a hassle. They kept us busy while we were waiting to find the schools again. Of course that meant no rig in the water too. We thought at 40 to 60 feet down we would avoid them. We even caught one in 348' of water 50' down on the downrigger! Those little buggers are everywhere.
