Wow. I didn't know pike were native to the Kettle River area. That's good to know. I will have to go catch a few of them when the water comes back up.

Wow. I did not know the illegally introduced pike had made their way to the Kettle River area. That is horrible news. I hope the WDFW and the local Universities are working on eradication methods for these illegally introduced non-native fish before more damage is done.

Not native AJ's Dad they have been washing out from the Pend Oreille River. But yes they will be there when the water returns. They are probably one or two pounds.

Spokanee I have let the local BIO know of this issue....

Let me know when they get to be about 30" then I'll be a regular in that area.

Here we go again LOL. They will never be gone out of the Columbia river( Lake Roosevelt) / Pend Oreille River system. They weren't illegally introduced to the Columbia or PO River they came down with the high waters from Noxan Montana where they may have been. There will be more the next time we have high waters unless Montana does something about it. If WDFW was worried about the Pike in the Columbia River Long Lake would be on the top of the list of areas to "Eradicate" the Pike. What damage have they done Spokanee just wondering? That pic pretty much says it all on why they will never take in the Columbia River (Lake Roosevelt) since the water level fluctuates way to much and Pike like shallow muddy, weedy warm water most of the year.

Maybe they should leave the walleyes alone now because the trout and kokanee don't stand a chance without them, let alone the salmon if they get established in the lower Columbia.

Im not saying that at all. What I am saying is that if we are going to control this invasive species then we need to get Montana to do something about it since that's where they keep coming from. . Just remember they all live together back east and in Canada just fine. Good fishing everyone...

Damage to what? There are over 65 different species of fish in the Columbia. There is a bounty on the northern pikeminnow which predates on the smolt pretty heavily, well guess what pike is good at? Eating some northern pikeminnow, so the WDFW could remove the bounty program and stop paying individuals up to $70k a year. Plus don't they barge the smolt down the river because they are afraid of the seals and birds of prey eating all the smolt anyway? I am not saying I want the pike to establish in the columbia, but if they did, I don't think they would so called "damage" the fishery....they would have plenty to eat. The columbia is not like the trout streams of montana or alaska that the WDFW keeps trying to compare the POR situation to...... how did Aaron Rodgers put it....."R...E...L...A...X.....RELAX!" The fishery will be just fine.

Ya but what about the Sculpin population?
Walleyes are already making it tough on the helpless Sculpin, now if the pike get estabalished in the Columbia, the native sculpin will be in danger!
I remember the days when my grandfather would take me to the river for an enjoyable day of sculpin fishing. We would sit in the boat all day, catching sculpin after sculpin. Now all I can do is reminisce shed a tear when I think that they to will be wiped out. I love those little bait stealers.
Where will it all end???? Maybe the WDFW should gill net the entire river system, wipe out every living thing, then restock it with nothing but salmonids.

I disagree Craig. They may never "take" in the Columbia, because the fluctuations in water will kill some spawns and some fish. But if a few fish have a good spawn every year, or more fish have a successful spawn every 3rd or 4th year it would keep the population lower so we dont have the overcrowding issue like Box Canyon. This would allow the fish that are there to really grow to maximum potential. They are there to stay, but I dont really ever see it exploding like Box Canyon.
