Yep, had to happen sooner or later like hewesfisher said a while back. I didn't want to drive 95 miles in the heavy fog predicted for Friday to launch at Spring Canyon so opted for Porcupine Bay on the Spokane Arm.
Friend Gareld and I decided we could fish trout, burbot and walleyes for a trifecta. Started fishing trout and found lots of fish off points as usual. Problem, MUD, yikes lots of mud! Rainbows hate mud...and so do I. No love there so we decided to head for a burbot hole I have fished before. Set up with jigs and worms, friend Gareld got one shortly. His first ever on purpose. Me not so much....hmmm what to do now? We only got the one and that was it.
Moved back downstream to where the walleye fishermen were seen working and set up bottom bouncing rigs. Gareld says hey I've got a bite. As always he hooks up....brings in a whopper 8" eye. That fish definitely needed to grow up. I caught a small one too so I didn't get skunked for the day. We ended up the day one burbot and two small walleyes. Not skunked but close. Guess I'll have to pony up and make the drive to the lower end of the lake next time.
All of that said it is always great to be out in God's awesome creation with great friends.
Tight lines all - Alan
