The cooler water temperatures have really turned the Rainbow fishing on at Rufus Woods. I have been focusing my fishing in the upper reaches of the reservoir fishing from the Seaton's Grove boat launch down to the net pens. Fish are ranging from 16-25 inches. I like to strictly use artificial baits with no scent and single barbless hooks so that we can catch and release until we get the fish we are looking for.

The tribe has recently released thousands of fish into the reservoir to go along with the thousands they released last summer. These fish are voracious feeders and feed very heavily on the numerous crayfish found in Rufus Woods. As a result, my baits and presentations mimic crayfish.

This fishery will continue to be outstanding all through the winter and this coming spring. I have openings available if you are interested in learning this awesome fishery. Big Wally's Guide Service

most of em look like spawners, are the trips hard to come by these days in rufus now that hey fixed pens? 2 years ago and before we used to kill em at upper pens,3-8lbs on shrimp or power bait.went last winter and wasn't as good as old days. Has it got any better? Big ones still around?

You are spot on with the spawned fishalot33. I tend to catch a bunch of them fishing shallow. Yeah since they fixed the net pens the big trips are tougher to come by for sure. There some big ones around though. I know that one that went right 8 pounds was caught just yesterday down near Bridgeport. Most of the fish they released were in that 1.5-2.0 lb range. The fish they released last summer are now starting to reach that 2.5-3.5 pound range.
