Launched mid-morning in breezy and wet conditions. Ginger wasn't happy with the boat ride, but I knew the rougher water meant good fishing!

Went back to my normal setups, with Kekeda flies on the leaded line and Rip'n Minnows on mono. Flies tipped with a piece of crawler and sent out out 150'. Plugs on mono sent back 195'. I chose the Kekeda perch pattern and Debbie wanted the Kekeda orange/black. Both were effective and hit equally as often.

First fish in the cooler in less than 15 mins and the action stayed consistent from there on. First few were healthy spring planters, then Debbie hooked a carryover that went 18 1/2 inches. I followed that with one that was 19 1/2 inches. Some other nice ones running 16" - 17" and then Debbie bested mine with one that was 20".

With the wind as it was, we drift trolled, as it can be near impossible to control the boat after hook up trolling into the wind. We made 3 passes on the section we fished, motoring back to our starting point each pass, until we put the last one on the cooler. Trolling speeds were 2.9 - 3.1mph. Limits came again in around 2 hours.

We repeated the same process Friday and Saturday, again with equal success. Other than some inconsiderate anglers/boaters who felt it necessary to run between us and the shoreline (bass boat with two guys and a Yamaha VMax on the back) when trolling within 100' of the shoreline, and another who tried to troll right up my transom (white fiberglass boat with a white top) we enjoyed our time away.

I should note for any reading my reports, one, my wife and I both have 2 pole permits, and, two, we have a residence in Seven Bays (not camping).

hewesfisher: Wow. Those are some real beauties. I sure hope the weather after Thanksgiving allows me and my friend to come over and try our luck on Roosevelt. Can't wait. As always I wish you and your wife good fishing. Thanks for the report and the pictures.

Hewesfisher, The 'bows really don't get much better than that no matter where you fish. Fat and feisty and fine in the smoker for sure.
I know the type of inconsiderate jerks out there that are really clueless when it comes to etiquette. I don't think they do it on purpose, it's just that they don't have any idea about boating OR fishing etiquette. We had similar experience to your troll-up-your-stern guys where we had an overloaded boat of drunks come roaring up behind us and shadow us at about 50'. After we fouled a couple lines avoiding them, I just stopped, reeled in and had a sandwich and watched them pass by...bozos.

Good to see your report Hewes. I have some friends coming up from Tri Cities to fish Wed. I think I will head up the Spokane arm and give it a try. Last year did real well up there. Haven't been on the lake since July so I'm due. Did you try the olive green Kekeda at all. I got a couple of them from Dave and think they would work great in the fall. Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the feedback guys, nothing like slowing down and enjoying the gifts we are blessed with. Sometimes that's what it takes to keep us properly focused on the important matters in life. :-)

I think Dave's flies are the best out there right now, and that's saying something for someone who has fished Frisky Jenny flies for the past 6 or 7 years. If you DON'T have some of Dave's flies, you really should order some if you plan to fish Roosevelt - JMO. Wish I had taken a picture of the battle scarred perch fly I used, it was well worn, but catching nice fish so I continued to use it. Tough combination to beat.

The Kekeda flies outproduced the plugs, BUT, the plugs ARE starting to attract more attention as the surface temps come down. Always love seeing a solid hit on a plug.

I've never met you, but just by seeing that you have gone to the effort to mount a surface-troll speed indicator I can see that you know your stuff. Not surprised that you catch so many fish. Limits....twenty inch 'bows.....nice.
Keep the reports coming, I'm living vicariously through you.
