Launched at Cresent Bay shortly after 8:00 knowing we had only two hours to fish. We started over to the rocks outside of Eden Harbor and man we took a pounding. There were some pretty big waves and a few of them crashed over the bow of my 14' boat. We decided it would probably be in our best interest to head into the harbor and see if we could get our fish inside the safety and calm. That first point coming in from the upstream side of the main lake was our sweet spot today. It accounted for four of our five fish. My cousin was using a firetiger blue fox and I was using an orange Kekeda fly with both downriggers set at 8'. My cousin HOOKED UP IN LESS THAN A MINUTE! He was just sitting down after setting his gear and said, "man, it popped out". Well after taking up his rod and starting to reel he realized it was our first fish. After a short battle, some hoots and hollering I netted a chunky little rainbow. So we start off again and right on a turn heading up the other side of the harbor I get a good pull; fish doesn't stick. While I'm reeling in my fly to check it I let the boat get a little too close to shore and before I could realize it my downrigger ball gets caught on a rock and pops right off. I just replaced the stainless wire with braid last week. I'm kinda glad I did because those little booms on the lake trollers look like they'd bend pretty quick against a snag. Well being the great planner that I am, I don't have any extra balls to hook up. So I'm stuck long lining it. We head back over to the first point again and reset the gear. I finally hook up on a chartreuse Kekeda fly long lined without any weight right at that first turn again. We decide to make short little loops right in that spot and finished the day with five fish total. My cousin caught four on his firetiger blue fox and I only had the one on my fly (can you say stubborn, I wouldn't change to MY firetiger blue fox I had in my tackle box for some reason). We, I mean he, was catching fish right up to the end and in fact the last fish came at the end of "last pass" before heading home. I plan on taking advantage of this spot a few more times before my Christmas break is up. Merry Christmas to everyone!
