We had planned a weekend at Roosevelt and later learned the Two Rivers Trout Derby was going to be the same weekend so we ponied up the entry fees and went fishing!

First derby we have ever entered and the first big surprise was the early morning boat inspection to make sure our live well and cooler didn't contain any fish. Since we were staying at Seven Bays, and the inspections started at 5am, we started out real early to be at Two Rivers before 6. I was concerned about how busy the Seven Bays launch might be with it being the closest usable launch to Two Rivers. Backing down the LONG, UNLIGHTED ramp was really interesting!

I decided to start out near Lincoln as we had done ok there a couple weeks ago. Took an hour to bag our first one, and it was a dark rainbow that hit a Floyd's Fly in yellow. Our digital scale said 2lbs, 15ozs so in the cooler it went. We made another pass, but it was in vain. We then went down to Sterling Point and made a run there, also in vain.

Then I decided we needed to hit the San Poil so off we went. As we pulled into the mouth, there were several boats and I knew there must be something going on. We joined in and started putting some fish in the boat. It was well after noon when we got our first one, but we ended up with 3 kokes and 2 more rainbows. Nothing of any great size, but good eats for sure.

The winds picked up and the water got quite rough making the trip back to Two Rivers a whole lot longer than it really is.

We made the weigh in and our biggest koke was 1.3lbs and the 'bow went 2.995lbs. I thought it might be good for 4th place, but it ended up being .06lbs too light.

Oh well, we had a nice day anyway! :-)

Out of curiosity, what size fish won the derby?
if your fish had been weighted in at its full weight, where would you have placed in the derby? If I am reading your report correctly, the fish that was 2lb 15oz on your scale when caught lost 6oz by weight in time?

Motoboat - The 1st place kokanee was 4.81lbs and I believe the 1st place rainbow was a little over 4.4lbs. The derby paid positions 1st thru 4th, and I was hoping to squeak in on 4th with my rainbow. I have a digital Rapala scale, and it showed my fish at 2lbs, 15 ozs and the official scale weighed it at 2.995lbs which is heavier than 2lbs, 15 ozs. I don't know what mine would have weighed officially if it had been weighed right after catching.
