Headed up to Roosevelt for a weekend outing and arrived about 2:30. Dropped our gear at the B&B and hit the lake. Made a quick run from Seven Bays to Sterling Point, fighting some nasty wind chop and swells on the way. Swells were white capped and running 2' - 3', but the ride was nice in the ProV!

Started fishing about 3:30 long lining a couple of RIp'n Minnows out 250' and some of Ray Bailey's Muddler Minnow flies (one with some orange highlights and the other with some chartreuse) on the leaded line rigs at 150'. Flies were tipped with 1/3 of a crawler.

Weren't there maybe 15 minutes before my wife had a solid hit on her long line rig. I could tell this was a nice fish as she was having difficulty trying to get it to the boat. I brought her leaded line rig in to give us plenty of working room and after about a 10 minute battle, she was finally able to get the fish in net range. A quick scoop and we had a dandy of a kokanee on board (and no question about it this time) - 4lbs, 2oz!! Big smiles, a high five, photo op, and in the cooler it went. Back to fishing and she brought in two nice rainbows, one at 2lbs, 15oz and the other was 2lb, 8oz. Me - goose eggs for the afternoon, but that was more than made up with the beautiful fish my wife caught.

Surface temp was running about 51° and the 2' - 3' wind chop forced us to "drift troll" from a half mile or so below Sterling Point. Trolling speed was about 2.3mph, but with the wind it was tough to keep any consistency which turned out to be a good thing. All three fish hit on an outside turn away from the shoreline. We made 3 or 4 passes, and finally called it a day a little after 7pm. Nice way to start the weekend. :-)

There was a trout derby at Roosevelt the weekend prior and the big kokanee for the weekend was 4.42lbs per the Spokesman-Review on Friday. Would have liked to fish that derby, but we were on the west side for the weekend instead. Next year for sure! :-)
