Arrived this morning for an overnighter of what I hoped would be productive brookie fishing. Was on the water around 9:30am with wind and intermittent rainy periods. The strong breeze made fishing difficult but this beat yardwork! Started off working the weedlines with a black yarn leech and caught four brookies right off, to 12 inches. Then things got tough. Eventually arrived at the far end of the lake and I picked up a couple of the triploids in between a periodic brook trout. The usual haunts that produced the 'trips for me on previous visits were just not working this morning. Left the water around 5pm for food and warmth.

Returned the next morning to sunshine and a beautiful day. Fishing started out very slow until I got to the far end of the lake where it's around four feet deep. Then I pulled out the dry line and went through my box. Everything seemed to be working. The most productive fly was my "Antie Elva," a black winged ant pattern that sinks slow. Topwater action was so active, I tied on a large Chernobyl Ant in yellow and orange and had fish hit it. Bee patterns were very effective up against the reeds. During the late morning, there was a huge hatch of mayflies that basically killed fishing for a short period. In all, the second day was great with lots of 'trips to 18" providing great action.
