We launched from Spring Canyon and fished from about 2pm until dark in and around Swallila Bay. We were marking a lot of fish and getting a lot of bites but we were unable to land anything with any size. Ron was using a Seps flasher and a green and red spinner all weekend and I was using just a blue and pink spinner. We tried other things but these two combinations were getting consistent strikes.

The next morning we went right back to work and decided to concentrate on the fish that we were reading on the fish finder the day before. After reaching our destination and getting our gear hooked up I took the downrigger down to 80 feet and within ten minutes I had a small kokanee on. It was a good sign as just about 20 minutes later I hooked the 4.6 lb kok and the fight was on. This fish left the water multiple times and also took several long runs. What a blast. About a half an hour after that I hooked another big one but this guy won the battle as he broke me off while taking off on a long run...I got caught with my drag too tight! What a rookie! Oh well, it was still a great rush to hook into such an exciting fish.

No matter where we fished, we would work the deep drop offs into the main channel of the lake. Everywhere we fished we were able to locate and catch kokanee. The mouth of the San Poil also produced some very nice koks. Based on all the little kokanee we caught, I would assume the next couple of years will be pretty good as long as the lake level remain somewhat consistent.
