I woke up late and decided to seek solitude today and do something different. So I went to notellum river to fish for bull trout which is legal there. Its specified in special regs 20" min size etc... bulls arent worth eating though I release them all these days....
I arrived to my first hole around 12:00pm this afternoon, started off with a black rabbit fur/ purple flash twitching jig immediately missed a hit on my first cast, cast again same spot bam, hooked up with a nice sized bull, knew it was over 20" as I was fighting it. I got it near shore, snapped a pic real fast, taped it, let it go. 22" , ill guess it wasnt far from being 4lb. I worked that hole for several minutes, then I decided it was time for a change up, so I switched to a 1/8oz white and blue wooley bugger jig and started at the very top of the run, first cast , I get a hit but miss so I reel it up and as I do I noticed something followed it, it ended up darting back to the depths so I casted again bam, fish on. I get it in, snapped a pic didnt measure it and let it go, id guess it was at least 18" and probably well over the 2lb mark. I continue to pound that same stretch with everything from spinners to float/jigs to spoons etc, nothing.. so I move up river and tied on a 1/4 oz rabbit fur jig, few casts in bam, im hooked up and land and release a spunky lively but very dark pink salmon. So I keep moving up, nada in the usual hole I catch them in.... interesting... so I keep going up to the biggest and furthest hole I visited today, 1st cast on the purple rabbit fur, wham fish on, I can see its another bull similar to the first one I caught , then as it made its first big run, it pulled the hook. I fished my way back with no more fish, but had a blast twitching jigs for bull trout.

Thanks quad.
Mr. Horning, yes we talked about this place before. I was thinking of your lure when I tied these jigs, they were 1/8th oz, and tied big and fluffy to sink slow and act similar to what I imagined that lure would act like, worked good too.

That's funny Notellum river! OK well I'm just learning salmon fishing. And these forums have been very helpful. I'm sure it will take time to figure out the lingo you fishermen have. But I'm learning. I fished at Snohomish river off the bank at Snohomish town. Too hard to get to river from there. So attempted Stillaguamish river... where I got some bites but caught none so far. I would love some feedback on other streams that are accessible by foot that I can catch trout or salmon. Does anyone know a spot?

We all know good spots. My best advise is look at google maps, find a stream or river you dont hear much about, check the regs, make sure its open and explore. Explore as many wiggly blue lines on the map as you can and your bound to find good fishing eventually. The farther you get from the crowds the better typically. Also find the river reports section and start perusing through past reports.
