A friend and I headed out Monday evening to a spot we know to see if the big full moon would bring on a good bite.
Unfortunately, because of the high hills and tall trees, moonlight never hit the water. The bass didn't seem to mind at first.
We arrived about 6pm, not a cloud in the sky, barely a breeze and hot, 95+. Float tubes are the way to go on that kind of day, we would have melted in my little aluminum boat.
Since it was so hot and sunny we started working the heavier cover and shadows along the shore with the frog. Nothin doin. After about 20 minutes we move off shore 20-30 yards to some floating weed mats in deeper water. Game on!
The bass started smashing the frogs. They were very aggressive on the strike and pretty ticked off by the time they got close enough to be landed. We floated the weed line until dark missing or losing twice as many as we caught. My buddy landed 9 fish and I landed 8 including a 3lb 12oz & a 4lb 6oz. I caught the 4lb about 9:30 as the last bit of light was slipping away and that was it, just like a light, they turned off. However, the mosquitoes turned on so we called it quits and drove home thinking about all the fish we caught and released and about all the ones that got away.
