Bassman101 and I hit the "Blue Swamp" at 6:am. It was a cloudless day, the moon was out and the wind was light (until about 7am, then it was a fairly stiff breeze for the rest of the day). A small aluminium boat & electric trolling motor work well since there is no launch. We headed to the weed line and started throwing senkos along the edge. 10 minutes in I land a nice 2lber. Another 15 minutes in and we each have another. I'm thinking this might be a banner day. 15 more minutes pass and WHAM, Bassman's reel is singing! After a brief struggle he pulls in a fattie, 4.75lbs. This turned out to be the big fish of the day but we did get a few more that were close to 4lbs.
At this point the wind picked up and the bite slowed. Since the boat was now drifting at warp speed we decided to plow into the lillies as far as possible to keep steady. Dragging senkos and rubber frogs across the pads caused many exciting and explosive strikes. We missed twice as many as we caught but it was a blast. 15lb braid is a plus for pulling some of those guys out of the salad. We stayed out all afternoon and end up with 17 caught & released plus ? almosts. We should have stayed for the evening bite but by then the sun had taken it's toll. Can't wait to go again!
