Went to this little pond not to far from my cow pond lake I've written a few stories about and just whacked the heck out of some crappie and a few small bass. Also fished the cow pond earlier and hit some nice bluegill but because I was teaching my buddy how to fly fish, he did more fish spooking that catching. Still managed a few nice bluegills big as your hand 9" maybe a little less, fight like a good two pound bass and good eating, also noticed small minnows so ecosystem is growing well and makes for bigger fish. Unlike the second pond that has a tone of crappie all about 5 to 6" long and I mean you don't even have to make an effort to cast to a certain spot they are just everywhere. More like shooting ducks at a gallery, heck didn't even have to cast ten feet from the boat. Difference between this pond and cow pond is the cast, at the cow pond have to make long cast, spooky fish and lots of half dollar sized pads that extend way out into pond and the other pond no lillie pads short cast. Used poppers and some nymphs at cow pond. Used strictly nymphs pattern at other pond full of crappie. My friend had hard time casting but at the second place only had to go ten feet watch the tip of your line and either you see the jerk in the line or the crappie just about hit it as soon as it got under the surface. Problem is they were all the same size, think it is because there are so many the competition for food is harder because the numbers are so many, we must of caught 50 each in 30-45 minutes. Buddy wants to take some home to Mom next time and I want to take some out to put into cow pond to increase there size. After a while I just stopped from catching so many and my buddy just kept practicing his casting and catching mechanics. Till next time, tight lines!
