Caught one estimated 28" wild Steelhead (not a keeper) from the South Umpqua River at Stanton Park, Canyonville. This reach of the river is catch and release for wild Steelhead and harvesting limited to only hatchery fish. It was a slow day fishing with 8-10 boats on the river with the weather at 50 degrees and overcast. No other fish were noticed being caught. The water was light green and 58 degrees with flows falling. We used yarn balls, jigs, eggs, and even a Crankin Rap (Rapala) just for fun - no bites (other than the one). Gear was used with and without floats and 1/2 ounce weights was the norm. We even tried Cabela's wire weights which worked well compared to sacked (slinkies) weights. The slinkies were continuing to get caught in the rocks and the wire weight had no problems. Otherwise another fun day with friends Mike and Kris Faulkner on the water.
