I was curious to see if any chums have made their way upstream yet, so I tried up a drift setup and headed to the Auburn area. Water was pretty clear, but moving at a good clip tonight.

I fished for about the last hour of daylight, and didn't get a single nibble. Only saw two fish jump far off in the distance, and couldn't tell if they were coho, or chums. The only in-water fish sighting was a zombie coho with rotten fins headed in the general direction of Elliott Bay.

I was under the impression this was supposed to be a big chum year everywhere. Maybe they haven't shown up in numbers yet, not sure about your area and how close you are to the ocean but sometime they come in with the tide and head back out to the ocean when the tide goes out until they are ready to commit to entering the stream. The only effective Chum fishing I have seen is casting at the top edge of rapids and flossing the them. Seems once chum hit the stream feeding is pretty much done for them.

yea I went by Chico creek yesterday and didn't see a fish jump or anything in the creek! Heard there were some already up by the hatchery but nothing moving or jumping in the salt the whole time I watched. Usually they are here by this time so maybe a later run this year ( I hope!)
