I hit the Pilchuck river around 11 am near the north end of Machias road to try my luck for some steelhead, and even cut-throats as well. I tried many techniques for them including, float fishing eggs, dick nites, corky and yarn with scent, corky and yarn with eggs, and free drifting worms. No luck.

The river did seem pretty muddy as well, as was flowing very fast. Must be due to the rain we got the past 2 or 3 days. Heard the fish were jumping earlier in the month and i believe it, just none were surfacing or showing their presence to me.

I will try the river again in couple of days when the river has gone down and cleared up, to report again

The fish jumping were most likely coho. last year on the pilchuck under the ok mill road bridge I saw so much coho it looked like you could walk across the river. which was ironic since it was a horrible coho year for me and the only spot I saw that may is on a river you can't fish for salmon. I hear the pilchuck used to be good for steelhead but now there aren't many in there. haven't seen a good report from there since the few years I've been on here. but I may be wrong on that.
Good luck out there!

I caught a small bow and 2 bright coho out of this river 2 days ago, it was perfect conditions, no sign of any steel, although I didnt see anyone else fishing. I doubt there are many in yet, a few strays maybe, I hear they mostly come at the very end of the season.
