Was bobber/worm fishing for little pumpkinseeds and perch from shore, using a small #14 94840 dry fly hook and full worm. Hooked into a 16 1/2 inch largemouth!! Was using my fly rod (5 weight) and regular spinning reel at the butt of the rod (a little awkward, but it makes the little ones seem bigger). Geez, talk about a hec of a fight! Took me a full 8-10 minutes to get it in. I was lucky to have the 8 feet of limber fly rod cuz I had 2 pound tippet. Then again, the fish went wherever it wanted to. Didn't think I was ever going to see it, frankly. Thought it would break me off. I'm guessing bass was 3 pounds or maybe a tad more. Hope to catch it again some time. That was fun! Had to lip it for fear of snapping the tippet when it got close. Funny to see a size 14 hook embedded in a gargantuan mouth:).
