Ok folks, not a big poster, but share experiences when appropriate. I toured the river from Cable on Hatch side up through intake on Monday and Tuesday and fished Proctor Creek area Monday. Let me first say I met a lot of nice folks cause I avoided the scrum opposite Hatchery at 5 am ( we drove up and 60 cars then) and at the hatchery . We started Monday at Proctor area, beautiful water, but no big fish, smolts only. Threw everything at them, mostly spoons from me , but bobber/ jigs bait, etc from my friends.

Later Monday took my out of town friends for a walking tour upriver, no fish but great scenery. I heard on Monday of maybe 40-50 fish caught at Reiter, last year 150-200 reported, low water is tough! The vibe in several popular areas was folks not real sporting, lots of comp for spots, etc. guys, this could be the future of our sport, think about it- be considerate to your fellow fisherman. I fished the fringes and met great guys all over, we know we will catch fish at some point and being cool to others, not making a bid friggin mess is what it is all about. Pick up, take line home , help others land fish.

Unfortunately, BNSF is taking another parking location off our list, ticketing on highway side ( or so I was told) anyone experience this?

Bottom line, if you just read a couple reports you don't learn much, the best advice for new folks is get out there, be considerate and learn, it takes a lot of years and experience to catch a lot of fish. I was fortunate on Monday afternoon to land a hot buck on a spoon, and doubly fortunate that it did not get too far down river and bother others.

I see us all getting forced into smaller areas to fish, love reading reports from the lower river. My guess is I walked probably 2 miles or more to catch one fish, there is a ton of beautiful water on the Sky, take advantage of all of it. I got my fish near cover, not in the front of the hatchery , tight lines

Great report. I parked on HWY side Monday morning, no problem. Also happy to report that I spent the majority of the day (after 6:00) in between the intake and the big rock on the hatchery side and everyone was being pretty cool in spite of the frustration from conditions and small numbers of fish being caught. Unfortunately opening day was more about bobber racing than catching fish, but you gotta love the "Woodstock for steelhead fishermen" atmosphere that occurs each opening day. With conditions and forecasts, trying other spots and doing some walking may be the only way to actually catch a lot of fish this summer.

Last Sunday I serveyed the river below Reiter and found great delight in the easy access of the river for as far as one likes to go. Great exercise and plenty of water to explore. I wonder with such a low river if steelhead might be hanging out much lower in the river...?
Anyone have a clue on this?

FT, maybe so on the lower river where the fish could be holding.

Thanks for the comments on Highway Side, I have never heard of issues with parking either until Tuesdaya Dan asked strange that when I arrived at 6:30, no one was there to fish. I have a different plan to fish it anyways , but made sense about crossing tracks since they have done that down on Reese Rd.

Plenty of water all over as you guys said and most of the negatives I had heard from folks on the HWY side Monday AM, starting early and some reports of poaching. Next year I will do what I usually do, stay home on opening day or hike and enjoy the entire river!
