First off, no “Hot Spot” locations on this report as all our fish came from a spot that Nate Treat scouted earlier this week and hit fish in, so thanks Nate!
I got to fish this morning with Gringo Pescador, Brianna, and Cody. We launched out of Cady Park and started off trolling plugs due to some big motor battery issues. Once the battery had enough charge we ran upriver to our first spot. Eggs were today’s plan of attack. We fished this first hole for a couple hours but had no luck and saw no fish rising, so decided to go further upriver. We arrived at Nate’s location and anchored up and began working the wood – snags, that is. The coho were in this area and we saw fish jumping the rest of the day. But to get em you had to put your presentation along downed timber. Amazingly, we only lost one float all day.
I got my fish just as I was going to retrieve my gear, right in front of a big downed branch. I could tell right away it was a big fish, but none the less I put the brakes on and horsed him in and away from the snags, and then let him run a bit. A nice, bright coho, fish in the boat!
The action the rest of the morning wasn’t red hot but it was pretty consistent. We ended up catching five fish between us, and I lost a second fish. For lunch Brianna made elk steaks, yum!
So all in all it was a good fall day on the Snohomish. Once home reality set in. I went to work on a downed fence from the recent windy weekend.
The season is winding down…
