10/12/2013 5:26:00 PMUpdate: The humpy didn't make it. Got home and the ice contracted the skin. Many areas puckered where flesh was already rotted away. On a good note - ate the smallest fish of the day tonite - it was a buck about 4-6 lbs and also the reddest fish of the lot. It was totally amazing - had it BBQ'd with a little salt/pepper. Also had quite a bit raw as I was filleting. It's the most amazing sashimi when it's this fresh!

Don't eat raw fish from freshwater or you will eventually get very sick. Even sushi bars are required to freeze salmon for days at 0* before thawing....to kill the parasites. Save your raw fish eating for salt water fish only. (Salmon and steelhead get the parasites from their freshwater cycles.)

10/12/2013 10:27:00 PMThanks! Nice to know. BTW, if you ever get stomach parasites, ecoli or salmonella, the best/fastest cure is 2 shots of 150+ moonshine. Kills everything in your stomach in about 10 minutes (learned that when I got ecoli from a Costco chicken and a naturopath treated me).

10/13/2013 8:05:00 AM@enforcer, You are correct about the salmon and steelhead getting the parasites from the freshwater, However they get these parasites in their adolescent stage going to the ocean so it would not make any difference if you eat one caught from the salt or the fresh as they would have had the parasites before entering the salt. Coho are your most prevalent to receive the parasites as they stay in the fresh water system for a longer period of time as an adolescent than do other salmonids.
