Managed to talk my 16 year old daughter into getting up at the crack of "going to bed" and headed up to the Skagit for some Humpy fishing. She was all for it as she really wants to catch one. Got to the secret spot and found one person already there. (I gotta talk to those blind monks who turned me on to this spot.) The water was a strange shade of brown.....and really murky. The jigs would disappear after about 3 inches! Still....rollers everywhere and sand shrimp in the cooler, we gave it a try anyway. While she tried her hand with the shrimp, I jigged a bit. I managed to piss one Humpy off and after he slapped the jig with his cheek it hooked him well. I played him for everything I could as I figured he was the lucky catch of the day. I was right. Not much else more than a few good hits throughout the day after that one. My daughter still hasn't caught her first salmon, but there is always next week! These fish aren't going away any time soon. Cast well!
