So this is a 2 day report since both days I only had about 3 hours to fish total between job commitments and having to go to church Sunday!

Saturday August 31st~ after finishing up some work early was able to get down to the Duwamish by the 599 highway gravel beach and freaked everyone out at first by parking up on the highway and checking things out with my binoculars to see what was shaking. I think people thought I was the warden as 1 guy upstream on the opposite side immediately pulled out his punch card and started filling it out! lol

Got down to find my boss fly fishing on the bank so just showed him what I use for a set up for drift fishing and joking around said I would show him how it's done. Well as 'luck' would have it 1st cast and boom! fish on! It started running up river and then dashed straight at me so tried to catch up with the slack and just as I did, it took off downstream and jumped and fish off!! Darn I hate losing fish but looked like a nice silver or big pink.

So went back at it and 4th cast boom! Fish on!! This time if freight trained up river and then turned back and headed for the salt water!! hahha I ran down as far as I could to the foot bridge and then got itself in one of the many snags out there so new I was doomed. It was definitely a king so fortunately held my ground and he just broke off at the hook an d got back most of my line and weight. Saw a few fish caught right at tide change but had to go.

Sunday Sept. 1st~ had less time today as had to home by 9:30 so hit the river by 7am and there were only 2 guys on the beach so cast out started with a float and jig. Wanted to see if I could get a nice new silver that happened be swimming by but didn't have any takers. Switched over to my drift set up with hootchie and bead set up with shrimp scent and just as it was getting close to tide change had a nice take down and fish on!! Made a few runs and seemed to be coming in but ran down river and jumped and broke the line so darn. Re tied up and this time used a black and white yarn with black corkie and was drifting when I had a vicious take and it was off the races again with another king. This one did the same thing but came upbuttoned luckily. Now the bite was heating up! A few more cast I get that familiar stop, tug, shake and set the hook and it's a pink for sure! Got it in after a few runs and wasn't big but my 1st on the green this year anyway. Hooked one more in the tail and brought him backwards and this was a bigger male with a hump already showing so let him swim away after removing the hook from his tail and had to go. Saw a few fish getting caught as I was leaving so looks like tide change is best down there. Now it's time to get my new motor this week and get back out on the salt for some coho's!! But may sneak down the river once or twice in between!! haha

See you on the water!!

Nice report Barry. What are you re-powering the Tin Cup with? I re-powered my Starcraft a year ago with 90 hp E-Tec and Yamaha T8 with electric start and tilt. Sure is nice not to have to fight anything but the fish! Headed for the Columbia Thursday to catch some kings.

Thanks! I am getting a 50hp '98 Johnson from All Seasons outboard and should have back by Thursday in time for the Edmonds derby I hope! With a 16' smokercraft 50 is about as big as I need for the main motor. My Yamaha 8hp 4-stroke kicker still runs like a champ. Hope you knock 'em dead down there! It is a hoot!
