Up by 4am to the smell of coffee, on the road by 4:30.
At my spot at 5am and completely alone. rigged everything the night before so I pretty much just hung out and relaxed and enjoyed the solitude of a quite river until legal fishing time.

Caught the first pink in the dark, caught and hooked many great fighters, kept only 2 as I really didn't want to clean and store any more than that and didn't want the meat to go bad. maybe I will learn how to can some later.

Used my new Okuma steelhead casting rod, its only 8 1/2ft but its so much better than my old rod, I love it. caught everything on a simple pink corkie, pink hook, tiny piece of pink yarn. I did try a horde kingfisher at one point but with no strikes I figured KISS.

if you set your alarm you can enjoy pretty good fishing for a while :)

some people dont like pink salmon for eating but I'll tell you what... I"m sitting here eating the most delicious salmon omelet I've ever had from Salmon that were in the water barely an hour ago and probably in the salt earlier this morning :)

LOL...love the art work. It depicts the weekend fishing so well. That's why I end my day early after constantly being entangled with everyone's lines.

LOL yup, I consider myself fortunate to have hit the water so early and had 2 good quality hours of fishing before everyone showed up. I hope that those who were there after me had a good time, and I'm glad that I had my time when I was there. Pinks are a blast!

Nice catch and artwork as mentioned. I want to fish this, but I can't bring myself to deal with the crowds and the not-so-obliging anglers. Done it before...just can't again.

Dustin, forgot to mention, I left because these guys who brought their kids was not properly supervising them and I got a single BARBED hook to my shoulder. Only thing saving me for the barb going thru was my thick hoodie...

LOL. I love the artwork as well. I hit the river yesterday in the early evening, catching my limit in about 45' but stayed to try to get a couple silvers or maybe an elusive king. Went back this morning at bout 6 and enjoyed an hour of good fishing. Then the busses dropped off the loons who have no idea how to fish the river; much like your picture. I left with three because of the idiocy.

nice picture. if you go farther up into sumner it spreads out pretty good. fish are there but not as many people up high cause they think they have to be as close to the mouth as they possibly can. good luck out there
