Spent a couple hours after work trying to be sneaky and creep up on some of those summer-runs on the upper Sky (above Reiter). Started with alternating between small nightmare and orange jig under a float and casting small spoons. Got a few small bites on the jigs but never could hook up anything. Might have just been little guys nibbling at it. Switched from float to drift setup with a yarn and a couple powerbait eggs. No steelies for me but did catch a few small rainbows on the pb eggs and spoons, so that at least provided some entertainment and it was a warm, beautiful evening so a good time had for sure.

Enlightening post. I've never thought of drifting pb eggs on the river. I'm going to add that to my arsenal!

I've used them for quite a while for winter steelhead. I use the kind that come connected in a string together so you can pull off one or two for clear water conditions or a bunch for dirty. I'm sure they don't get as many bites as using the real deal egg clusters, but they're a lot less mess and work... and I'm lazy so that's a huge plus for me.
