Met my brother and my dad for our annual Steelhead trip on the Grand Ronde. The river was in much better shape this year at 2600 cfs. Last year same time it was at 9000!!! (Chocolate Milk). Well day one we hooked up with four fish three hatchery and one native. All fish around the 3-6 lb range. The bucks were dark and the hens were nice and bright as usual for this time of year.
Day two we landed six fish and kept two for the smoker! Only one native this trip. Action was pretty slow compared to previous years. Talk to some locals and they said there was a smaller return this year for some reason.
Fished at Bogans Corner down stream and right below the hatchery.
Drift fished with 1/4 inch orange corkies and orange yarn. Smaller the gear the better in this river.
Tight lines everybody!!
