Got a chance to hit the river this morning. Went with Kzoo and we weren't expecting much as the forecasts called for high winds and rain and the river was supposed to be on the rise. Got to the river about 30 minutes before sunrise and all signs pointed in that direction.

Threw a spoon until it was light enough to see my float, then switched to float & jig. As it got lighter out I could see the water wasn't really as bad as I thought it might be. Threw darker colors until the sky lightened up a little, then switched to lighter colors. Went through a few patterns and decided it was time for my go-to.

As soon as I did I had one take just as I was reeling in my line at the end of the float. Couple head shakes and it was gone. Kept at it and finally got a bobber down! Fish hugged the bottom all the way in, made a couple runs and was into the net. Bonked, tagged, re tied, had a cup of coffee and was back at it.

After another hour of casting I sat down for a snack and coffee and decided to try on a new pattern I had just tied up last week. Not more than 3 casts later and BAM. 2nd fish on! New pattern is a winner! Feistier fish but nice and bright. Bonked, tagged & checked the time. Heck it's only 9:45am!

So I broke my gear down, found a comfortable moss covered rock up on the bank out of the way but close enough to harass Kzoo and relax a little. It wasn't long before Kzoo hit his 1st. Nice bright little buck. After a few jumps & runs, in the net he goes. Since he had one, we decided to hang out until noon. Finally about 11:45 Kzoo hit his 2nd, a nice little hen to match the buck.

Got lots of nice comments from guys walking by and on our way out. From what we saw we were the only guys to catch anything on our side of the river.

The big hen weighed out at 11 pounds cleaned and gave me 1 pound, 12 ounces of eggs. The smaller buck at 6 pounds cleaned.

Throughout the morning the rain and wind would come and go, but the river never rose and really it wasn't a bad day - a little wet, but I've been wetter and colder.

OH yeah, Kzoo is great on the net! Would trust him to net a fish for me anyday. BUT watch out if you are netting fish for him, he'll bring em in just out of reach, then start whining "you gonna net that thing or not!"...

I think I'd rather have a blind man netting for me.
