Went to the humptulips hatchery yesterday for the first time. We got there around 4pm and parked at the hatchery and then walked down. The hump was blown out but the hatchery creek wasnt so it created a nice line of clear and muddy water where the fish sat. Being our first time there we were not sure what fish would be in the river, but we assumed coho. First fish I hook its huge and I realize its a bronze king. It breaks my 15lb spiderwire leader. Which was ridiculous because i was babying that fish to keep it from going down river. But I retie and shortly get a huge coho on, after a bit he spits the hook. Then I get two more kings on and lose them, then another coho. Then I hook up again and its a dang chum. I get him in and send him back, but what bad luck to only get a chum to the bank. I hook up with two more kings that I dont get in, and its time to call it quits. I saw some great fish out there. Some fresh coho, some dark coho, chum, and surprisingly some dark kings and some that were just starting to bronze. One guy had a huge chrome king on that went all the way down river. Another guy broke his pole on a chum. It was fun few hours with consistent hookups, but only a 3 because I only managed to bank the one fish I didnt want.

I was going to head over there in the morning but was concerned about the rain as I have fished that river and actually seen it rise while I was fishing! lol
was it Stevens creek? I think the part on your hot spots was lower then the hatchery but I could be wrong unless there is one further down. thanks for the report and letting us know about Chico creek~ one guy said down there yesterday that they have been showing up since Oct. 10th.
As far as the Hump, it will produce nice bright kings and coho thru November and is best as the water drops.. thanks again for the reports!
I got some great eggs out of the chum yesterday and want to try them out this Friday and Saturday!

I might've put the marker in the wrong spot.. the map they have is fairly undetailed so I made the judgment call on hatchery location based on the curve of the river and location of Kirkpatrick road.

gotcha! I was thinking maybe I needed to go further down river next time! it is pretty close to the 101 turn off on Kilpatrick road. When you go down that trail before you get to the end, hang a right on the trail that breaks off and there is some great access below the creek but only when the river isn't blown like it will be now.

schu7498 - Been wanting to hit the Humptulips for about a month. Might make the trek on Friday with my brother. Noticed you listed both yarn and corkies and fish eggs, what was most effective?

nice day with some good action, cool. I moved your HotSpot marker to where the hatchery is, but I don't know if you were above or below?
