We fished the bend at wallace and we got no takers there but saw a few fish roll. So we decided to move down river and check out the hole under hwy 2 bridge. I did hook into a few under the bridge but still pretty slow. The water levels were a little high and normally these first two holes should be stacked with coho by now. So I figured that all the silvers were heading up to the hatchery at the intake. So we head up to the hatchery and I see three guys fishing there, so I first go and check out the cedar hole and hooked into one fish there but released it because it was crackered. Then no bites after that so I wanted to hit the intake at the hatchery before I leave and see if there were fish there. I scout out a spot in between the three fisherman that were there. And one guy who had his son there as I was walking into the hole says "your not fishing right next to me are you?". I was pretty annoyed at that because I was definatley not going to fish right next to him, but was moving to a spot that was down on the rocks where I saw that there was plenty of space. It must have pushed a button on him or maybe he's just psychotic but I'll tell you why later. I look down and I see loads of silvers at my feet. The silvers are all stacked up at the intake hatchery. I was thinking wow there is only three guys here? Normally this hole when there are this many silvers have atleast 6-8 guys fishing this small stretch. I immediately hook into a 12+ pound buck that nearly spooled me and broke me off. Shortly after I hook into a semi-chromed silver buck that had orange red meat on it after I cut it open. Then my buddy comes in and the guy with the son asks him "I hope you're are not going to be fishing right up here in a tone that was sounding like he was being territorial about his spot. At that point I was pissed and yelled "there is plenty of space for all of us!". He was yelling at me saying that I have no fishing edicate because he accused me of barging into the space that was open between the two fisherman. He stated that he was at that hole first and that "fishing edicate" meant that I was suppose to politely ask him if I could fish at that spot. What!!?? the intake hole at the hatchery?!! He was screaming at me at this point saying that I am rude, I have no fishing edicate and I have no respect. And his reason was that I didn't ask him if I could fish at that spot that was open. Like come on!! Like I have to ask you if I could fish an open spot at the hatchery hole. Obviously this guy hasn't experienced combat fishing before. He was convinced that I had been rude to him for not asking him personally if I could fish there. Like I needed too! Like he owned the river. At this point there was nothing I could say to calm this guy down. The other fisherman down river jumped in on the action and says "actually you did barge into that spot and didn't ask"....what tha? There seems to be some people that think that they own that spot. I've had plenty of guys combat fishing fish right behind my shoulder and annoying as that may seem what could you do? It's combat fishing. Fishing edicate does not mean that if you find a hole it's your river and hole to fish. Fishing edicate means that you give the other fisherman some space and wait your turn as they cast so that lines don't get tangled. It was obvious that they were seriously unhappy that I was fishing in that hole. BTW...there are loads of silvers at the intake at the wallace hatchery. Soooo many fish there. If you want to catch limits of silvers I would be going to that intake hole at the wallace hatchery. If there is space stake a spot and have fun. And have proper fishing edicate, which means give people space and cast in sequence to not get line tangle. Fishing edicate does not mean that you need to ask people to fish in an open spot. That is ridiculous! I wanted to put this out in the fishing community because I don't think people know what fishing edicate really means. I felt sorry for the guys son because he had to watch two grown men yell and scream at eachother when fishing should have been fun. As things were heating up I mention that his son is right there and that he may not be setting a good example to him. After wards I hear him tell his son "it's all about respect". He clearly thought that I was being rude when in fact it was him that was being rude. Let's see how he does on a saturday there when there are alot more people fishing in that hole. Anyway, it was a phenomenal day fishing. If you want to catch fish head up to the wallace river. While all rivers blow out the wallace hatchery is the place to be. I would rather be combat fishing with 12 other guys than 3 guys who think they own the damn river!!

Sorry no pics but I did bonker a nice buck that had red meat on it...yummm

Have fun fishing and if you see a guy with a shaved head fishing with his son. Tell him to shut it if he wants you to ask him permission to fish in that hole.

Nice fish. I have been waiting for the hatchery to re-open. I'll be there tomorrow. Sorry to hear you had some drama to deal with out there. That spot can get that way. No need for people to be a jackass...especially in front of there kid. I have fished near you many times and think you have always had good fishing eddicat. Hopefully the a-holes geat pushed out of there.

I can see someone getting annoyed in an open area of river, but at a hatchery hole...come on people. Good job Dad! Your kid is learning to be just like you.

Where exactly is the hatchery intake located?

nwfishingguide- the hatchery hole is not hard to find...just park right at the hatchery which has a sign after your cross hwy 2 bridge..make a left and park where right there...you then walk a short ways through a path that leads you to the river, as soon as you get there the intake is right there
3footvis-in a non hatchery location there are different expectations for sure
bassassassin0- you would have every right to be pissed and say something...casting over someones line during a drift is definatley bad fishing edicate
