First day of a week's vacation... headed for the Green River. Another frustrating day for me! Arrived at 7:15AM, fishing just west of the I-5 bridge, from the bank. Another fisherman arrived at same time and place... was fishing at 7:30. Lots of fish jumping and rolling, plenty of chrome among them. Casting a chartreuse Blue Fox spinner, #4... did well on this spinner last year, nothing so far this year. About 15 minutes in, Bam!... fish on... big fish! Headed upstream fast, about 30 yards, tightened drag and turned it... then it headed for Puget Sound! I knew I was in trouble when I saw it come in close to the bank and running directly into a clump of low hanging Maple branches... tree 1, fisherman 0. Was a great five minutes though! Tide was low, 11:00ish, and had no action the rest of the morning. Visible fish had died down to only an occasional jumper. Tried everything in the tackle bag... spoons, spinners, jigs, roe under a float, drifting roe, corkies & yarn... nada! About 2:00PM a school of chrome brights ran through and immediately had another hook-up... now on a black and chartreuse Blue Fox, #4. Ran upstream and jumped three feet in the air and threw the hook. Nothing the rest of the afternoon. About 3:00, a steady, light rain began to fall and saw no more fish jump (don't know if it was the rain, or all the debris on the water)... left at about 4:30. Seems that the fish are hell-bent to get upstream, aren't hanging around long in the lower river. Saw five other fishermen in the same area, no fish caught. PTL!
