Arrived at river about 6:00AM. Fished just above Sultan bridge. Parking lot was pretty full, about 12-15 fishermen already on the river when I finally got out. Day started out cloudy, but warm. Water was 61 degrees, along riverbank. Started with small black corky and chartreuse yarn, fished an hour with nothing. Changed up to a chartreuse/pink Blue Fox spinner, and on the sixth cast caught a juvenile steelhead, about 13" long. Wouldn't mind hitting him again in two years! Stayed with the spinners all day long... had two fish flash behind the spinner, but no other takers.
Saw one fish roll at the surface of a deep pool (King??) but nothing else. Did see a fly-fisherman across the river land one about the same size as mine. Saw about two dozen fishermen come and go on the riverbank, plus a flotilla of boats up and down the river out front. Did not see a single hook-up from bank nor boat all day.
River was high, strong current, but visibility was great. River dropped 4" to 6" while I was there.
Sun burned off the cloud layer about noon, and the afternoon got hot! Left river at 3:00. Wonderful to be on the River again. PTL!
