Hit the Green this morning to find out if I could hike into a part of the river across from where I fished on Monday below Metzlers. Monday's spot had a lot of fish but limited areas to fish from and it was tight up against a logjam. Monday's hike was tough and this one was longer and tougher. Had to wade across 2 "ponds" to get to the real river and squeeze through trees and worse. Found the area I was looking for but managed to break the tip on my float rod but fished with it anyway. The chum were in and I caught several right off the bat which did not fight much so I was considering leaving because of boredom. Then the bite shut off for about an hour and I was wondering what was up. I put a new jig on(the old one was beat to death) and started fishing in water closer to the faster current and bouncing my jig down a riffle before the pool. Finally I hit another chum and this one had game! Best fighting chum on the Green so far this year considering he wasn't that big. Then the bite was back on and all the subsequent fish were brighter and breaking water and fighting like the dogs they are. Definitely pepped up my day since I learned a new twist on chum/jig fishing and found a new spot. That and some feisty chum made it almost perfect minus the broken tip(cheap fix anyway). I took a picture of the first good fighter and one of a later near chrome hen which had scales falling off. I am guessing some new fish have made it upriver so I might try Metzlers later in the week. Tight lines!
